One of the many advantages of Android as a phone OS is that you have complete freedom to pick and choose the look, style and utility of the applications you use with it. While the standard Android keyboard does a credible job, there are plenty of third-party options you could try. If you want to install alternative keyboards on the Galaxy S7, here’s how to do it.
Find an alternative keyboard
There are dozens of good keyboard available on the Google Play store so spend a little time finding one that you like the look of and that is compatible with your Galaxy S7. We won’t go into recommendations here, but check the reviews and find a couple you like.
Installing alternative keyboards on the Galaxy S7
Once you have found a keyboard or two to try, you will need to install it and make it available as an input method.
1. Access the Play Store from your Galaxy S7.
2. Install your keyboard(s) of choice.
3. Access the Settings menu if you weren’t prompted to activate the keyboard. Some apps will prompt you to enable it during installation, others will not.
4. Select Languages and keyboard and then select Current keyboard.
5. Select the new keyboard from the list and set it as default.
Alternate methods of selecting a new keyboard
If you choose not to manually select a new keyboard from the settings menu there is another method you can use. When you enter the Hangouts app to send an SMS, a keyboard icon should appear in the notification screen.
1. Swipe down and tap the keyboard to access the Change keyboard screen.
2. Select the new keyboard from the list and set it as default.
