I have two versions of Windows 10 Home, shown to me on boot. One is on volume 1, which is the one I want, the other is on volume 5, which I want to remove. I have deleted Windows.old and cannot find another windows installation on my PC, yet am always prompted whether I want to boot from Volume 1 or 5.

Try this...

  1. Go to "Start" and in the search box type "msconfig" (without the quotes).
  2. Click on the "Boot" tab.
  3. Select which version of Windows you want to boot directly into.
  4. Choose to set that one as the "Default".
  5. You should also be able to select the other one and choose to "Delete" it. (Just be sure it is the right one you are deleting.)
  6. Click "Apply" and then click "OK".
  7. Restart the computer and you should not get the option to choose again.
