Unless you had tracking software installed on your laptop and whoever stole it connected it to the internet before wiping it first, your laptop is as good as gone unless you get lucky with the police and they manage to track it down.
For the iPad, Apple might be able to track it by serial number if the thief or whoever bought it from him attempts to activate an account on it.
Call the police. Provide them with serial numbers if possible. That way, if they end up in a pawn shop, they can be identified/declared stolen and possibly returned to you.
Contact your ISP. If you happen to know the MAC addresses of these items, they may be able to track them if they're ever reconnected to their network. It's unlikely, but your ISP may be able to actually provide you with the MAC addresses as well.
