Touch ID allows you log into your Mac and authorize payments with the touch of a finger. This is a very useful feature as t is much quicker than typing passwords and is more secure. In order to utilize Touch ID to its fullest, you need to set your preferences in the Touch ID settings. You can do that by following these steps.
1. Open 'System Preferences'
Click on the ‘Apple’ logo at the top left of your Home screen. Select ‘System Preferences’ from the drop-down list. The System Preferences dialog box will open up.
Alternatively, you can click on the System Preferences shortcut on your toolbar.
2. Select 'Touch ID'
Click on the ‘Touch ID’ option in the System Preferences dialog box. You will find it towards the end of the menu options on-screen. The Touch ID dialog box will open.
3. Set Preferences
Check the boxes next to the options you would like to use Touch ID for. The options available are ’Unlocking your Mac’, ‘Apple Pay’, ‘iTunes’ and ‘App Store’. After setting your preferences, macOS will allow you to use your fingerprint to authorize payments via Apple Pay, or to unlock your MacBook Pro.
4. Add/Delete 'Fingerprints'
To delete an already existing fingerprint, use the cursor to hover over the fingerprint until an ‘X’ sign appears. Enter your account password in the pop-up that appears and agree to ‘Delete’ the fingerprint.
To add fingerprints, Click on the ‘+’ button in the Touch ID dialog box, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Follow these steps, and your Touch ID will be set to your Preferences.
