A hard reset is very different to a hard restart or reboot. The reset returns your Galaxy S7 to factory defaults and wipes all your data from the phone. The hard restart and hard reboot are what you use to unfreeze the handset, force an app to close or otherwise force restart the phone. Hard reset the Galaxy S7 from the menu
If the phone is working fine and you just want to wipe it clean, you can do so from the menu. Remember, a hard reset wipes all data from the phone so back everything up before doing it!
1. Navigate to the Settings menu and select Backup and reset.
2. Select Factory data reset.
3. Wait for the process to complete.
The operation might take a minute or two depending on how much data you have on the phone. Once complete, your phone will return to factory defaults and be as fresh as the day it arrived.
Hard reset the Galaxy S7 from boot
If the phone is frozen or playing up, you can force a hard reset from the recovery menu.
1. Power off the phone.
2. Press and hold volume up, home and power buttons until the S7 logo appears.
3. Select Wipe data/factory reset from the recovery menu using the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to select.
4. Select ‘Yes – delete all user data’ and confirm.
5. Select ‘reboot system now’ once the wipe is complete.
Your Galaxy S7 should now reboot as normal and contain no personal data or files.
