How to performance tune an older laptop?

I'm in the process of a number of upgrades to an older laptop. I just doubled the RAM and would like to know what changes I can do to the settings in order to take advantage of the extra ram.

I'm running Windows Vista and went from 2 to 4GB and I'm getting an SSD next.

I have all the setting suggested in the tutorial here:
http://www.tomsguide.com/faq/id-3693762/enhance-performance-laptop.html?xtor=EREC-8889&_ga=2.151520561.924253618.1540474315-1348464520.1538690868

But I'm looking for things like the shared video memory going from 1/2GB to 1GB or swap file size or any other settings I can change.

Solution
1. thing keep SSD 50% free or more.
2. lower the swap file if possible. Will force OS to use ram, which is faster, but you might end up with errors "no ram left"
3. don't set video memory high. 256 is fine for browsers, 512 for light gaming.
4. disable windows crap: multiple lists exists:

check if thermally laptop does fry itself. REAPPLYING paste might take thottling away.
