How to Prepare Your Mac for a MacBook Pro Upgrade

Upgrading to a new MacBook Pro can seem intimidating at first, especially when you have a huge stack of files saved on your previous Mac. But it is simple to migrate to a MacBook Pro; you only need to back up the data and erase the disk on your old Mac. Follow these steps to learn how.

How to Prepare MacBook Pro upgrade by backing up data?

1. Connect 'Backup Drive'
Connect the drive you want to use to back up your data to your old Mac. Your backups will be stored here. Before connecting the external disk, make sure it has a decent amount of space remaining. This will mean you won’t have to store the backup in parts.
If breaking it into parts is necessary, it is still not difficult but keeping it as one piece can make life much easier for beginners.

2. Open ‘System Preferences’
Click on the ‘Apple’ logo on your Mac Home screen. From the drop-down list, select ‘System Preferences’. The System Preferences dialog box will open.

3. Select ‘Time Machine’
Click on the ‘Time Machine’ icon towards the bottom of the ‘System Preferences’ dialog box. The ‘Time Machine’ dialog box will open.
