How to remove TouchWiz on your Galaxy S7

Of all of the manufacturer and vendor overlays, Samsung’s TouchWiz is one of the best. It’s relatively slim, fairly unobtrusive and doesn’t get in the way that much. But it does use up valuable internal storage, around 8.2GB of it. If you prefer the vanilla Android look there is a way around TouchWiz even though you cannot remove it altogether.

Here’s how to remove TouchWiz on your Galaxy S7 experience, if not the phone itself.

Disable TouchWiz on a Galaxy S7
It is better to disable TouchWiz as soon as you get the S7 as it involves performing a factory reset. A factory reset will delete all your personal data and files, so back up anything you want to keep before doing it.

1. Navigate to Settings and then Backup and reset.
2. Select Factory data reset and then Reset device.
3. Wait for the process to complete and the phone to reboot.

Disable Samsung apps
Next, disable all the TouchWiz apps and carrier apps you’re never likely to use.

1. Navigate to Settings and then Apps.
2. Force stop and disable all apps you’re not likely to use.
3. Rinse and repeat for all apps, especially the annoying S Planner app.

Replace TouchWiz with Google Now Launcher
To leave TouchWiz behind forever, you can download and install the Google Now Launcher. There are custom launchers available that can do more but they are outside the scope of this tutorial.

1. Navigate to the Play Store on the phone.
2. Find the Google Now Launcher or your launcher of choice.
3. Download, install and set as default when prompted.
4. Repeat for Google Camera and Google Messenger should you want to.

That is about as far as you can go to remove TouchWiz without rooting. Hope it helps!
