How to reset a forgotten password

I have a irulu iPad can't reset forgotten password need help. Friend of mine gave it as present and as soon as she cleared all her info to give me the iPad a locked password for it came up had her try but doesn't know what went wrong...SOMEONE HELP PLEASE
