How to restore data from Samsung Note 2 to LG v20

Hi guys!

I've been using Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for years and finally decided to upgrade. I opted for LG v20 and it should be arriving shortly. Samsung Kies 3 is a great tool to backup data including SMS, Photos, Videos, Contacts etc...

I was wondering how can I transfer my whole data from Note 2 to LG v20?

I've briefly checked LG's website and there seems to be a backup tool but it works only with their brand of phones and it may not have all the options like Samsung Kies 3 (I will have to check it out once I get my phone)

So, what is the best way to transfer specially my SMS and Contacts from one android phone to the other? (Samsung to LG)

Your text messages should come through once you activate the new device, contacts you can check and see if they are saved to your Google or other online account. If not, you can move them to that.

I am logged into google on my Note 2 but my default option to save any contact detail is on the device memory, I will see if it brings all the contacts but how will it import all the old SMS to LG dating months / years back stored on Note 2? My understanding is all the messages are stored on device and not online.
