First of all, what carrier are you with?

There's different versions of the S2 for different locales.

Here are the different versions available:

The AT&T version, also known as the SGH-1777
The T-Mobile version, also known as the SGH-T989
The many international versions, which fall under the umbrella of the I9100 (with many variants within)

I have been using sybian phones (nokia & SE) for over 15 years.

A friend told me that rooting makes ur phone faster. I play a lot of games on the phone which had made the phone very slow.
Will rooting make it faster?

Android is built off Linux.

In Windows, you have the administrator account. In Linux you have a root user.

All root does is give you the administrator capabilities and allow you to change system files you'd otherwise be locked out of.

It can make your phone faster, in a sense, since once you root you can overclock the processor. However I recommend against this as it will decrease battery life and increase heat and stress on the phone.
