I've got hardly any storage space on my phone but got loads on my SD, how do I download apps straight onto my SD? Please help.

Hi

Ive not got any of above or similar techniques to work yet, but my interim solution may help a little and you only need the factory box SD card and a PC, even the PC should be optional, but harder work.

Ive got the new Ace variant, and suspect the root process needs to be bespoke... but doing following you get nearly double the memory YMMV, but it is easy...

You down load your favorite apps until you get error memory full. You may have done this step already already?

Next you save about 80Mb by...
going to settings/applications/manage applcations/ and delete
the playstore services and playstore (updates) note playstore will still work (ie download) as per normal in its fresh from factory state if you need it again, while away...

Hello I would give it a lot of thought and a lot of research into rooting any of your devices. I myself do not know how to do it and I fortunately mentioned wanting to do this to my son who is a real computer Wizz kid. There is a list things you can gain by rooting.. control over your device. But, and this is a big but you really need to know and understand a lot of real techie stuff to work it successfully. I think it's a bit like brain surgery. Brain surgery can be great if done by a great surgeon who has all the proper training, skills and tools to do the job.
Here's a page that helps to understand some of the possible ramifications of rooting your phone.
One big thing is you could "Brick" your phone basically making it as useful as a brick.

"Besides losing the warranty on your phone, and possibly bricking your phone, there's also risk of allowing holes in the phone's security features that protect you from getting your phone hacked, viruses, and other things like that. in short I wouldn't bother with it because you could make your phone a paper weight." Oh also you risk loosing you phone carrier. Not a great thing.
It's understandable to feel frustrated. Keep up your search and I'm sure you can find less risky solutions.
Be well,
Gina Quinn

Next you save about 80Mb by...
going to settings/applications/manage applcations/ and delete
the playstore services and playstore (updates) note playstore will still work (ie download) as per normal in its fresh from factory state if you need it again, while away from a PC.

If you now prompt a down load from the app store using your PC (google app play store to find play store) you can down load more apps until you over fill the 80Mb you just saved. This PC down load normally stops google updating the Ace's pay store and services, if you also inhibit auto update option buried in settings somewhere.

I do the down load via WiFi but 3G may work ok.

Then you need to pick a smaller set or several smaller sets of apps that will leave enough memory free...

You will find that some apps will be on the SD card and wont be using any of your 190Mb.

Ill list mine following...

Some apps wont work without 'play store services' or whatever it is called (it is history on my ace so Ive forgotten its exact name) and such dependent apps are also history on my ace. Goggle dont tell you this dependency, but such apps will give an error message.

So you need to identify apps that load to SD card and also identify apps that run without play store services. Then rebuild via Playstore on PC.

I'm now happy with my ace memory I have about 20mb free within these restrictions and probably wont try again to root or alter the default down load location.

My apps that default to the SD card are:

App backup : Blue tooth file transfer : LinkedIN : London transport Free
: Metrolink : My O2 : Oyster Mate : PodStore : Three :

They are all free... So without the Play Store services and factory Play Store version (saving 70mb or so Ive forgotten) and with the SD resident apps (saving 20mb for me) you may save 100Mb or so of memory.

You got to juggle your other down load apps to 'just' fit in and after giving precedence to any that load into SD card anyway and reduce all the factory apps to factory version, inhibit automatic updating, clear cache etc.

For my usage this leaves me with a useful smart phone. Id not recommend you bought one even cheap, mine was cheap (even) new, but if you are poor, or get given one.

You may even get the more radical schemes like altering the 'root' script to work with 2.3.6. This is merely my work around, while I get root script error messages.
