how to stop youtube videos from freezing up on android

As of about 2 weeks ago all videos on youtube keep freezing up from my android

it's an internet connection problem

It's definitely not an internet problem as the application freezes as well after about 5-10 minutes of video.

The only thing I've been able to do is close out as much background apps as possible, but it isn't a permanent fix...
