How to take care of built in batteries?

I recently bought a new laptop (Acer aspire v5) and I was not aware that it had a built in battery. I was wondering what steps I should take to make sure the battery stays healthy. I know for removable batteries I should take out the battery and run only on AC power when I keep it plugged in for a long time. However this option is obviously not possible here so what should I do to ensure my battery lasts long. I mostly keep it at home so I will be plugged into AC power most of the time. I feel that if I keep it plugged in constantly it will just slowly kill the battery or if I charge and then unplug constantly I will be wasting charges. Also the battery is lithium polymer not lithium ion. Thanks for the tips.

Solution
Modern power management circuitry will prevent "over-charging" the battery, even if you leave it charging 24/7. What is detrimental to the battery is charging it to 100%, letting it drain completely or near completely, then recharging it to 100% repeatedly. This puts a lot of wear on the cells.

Try to keep your charge between 20% and 80%, while only doing a FULL charge + discharge cycle once in a great while. This will preserve the overall longevity of the battery's ability to hold a charge. Also, the cooler you can keep the laptop, the better for the battery as well.

How would I be able to keep my battery at 80% if I am keeping it plugged in most of the time? Or are you referring to the times when I actually do unplug and go out to use my laptop? If that is the case, would it be okay to leave my laptop plugged in for about 3-4 days straight? I only plan on using my laptop unplugged when I take it with me to school.

You would need to disconnect the AC adapter at about 80%, regardless of whether you go out with it or not. 3 - 4 days will definitely charge it to 100%, so that is your call. Replacing a battery that's internal will require either warranty service (sending the laptop away) or bringing it to a technician, so bear that in mind in how you treat the battery. :)

Same case, except mine's a V3. Aren't there additional pointers to maintain the battery, especially because our batteries are nonremovable? We have no choice but to repeatedly charge and discharge the battery, which affects the longevity of the battery. Wish they made it easier and more efficient for us =(

Can't we just leave our laptops connected to AC for long periods of time (like 2-3 days straight with 100% charge)? Since it seems like the complete discharging is the factor which shortens battery longevity.

not an answer but im curiouse if modern engineers factor this in when keeping your notbook plugged in.

...Therefore it may be possible that 100% is not really 100% but actually the ideal "80%". If that makes sence.

Hellooo representative technitian from acer! Can you hear me><?
