How to test for bad hdmi port on a new laptop

Hello,
I have a new Asus K53E laptop and the HDMI port doesn't work. My Sony works just fine using the same hdmi cable and tv. All my windows, intel, and asus drivers are up to date. Played around with resolution and tried using the external display only and the clone displays. The computer recognizes the tv as a secondary monitor but won't display anything to the tv. Hardware issue???

Some things I would try:

Look for BIOS update
Try a different display (I know you said yours works, but sometimes these things are funny)
See if it works under linux or a different OS

I have the same model laptop and mine is behaving exactly the same way. Asus needs to step up and fix this issue.
