Text selection and editing is such a simple thing but Android never got it right until quite recently. Previously, you would have to navigate to the top of the screen and select the action there. The floating toolbar
Android Marshmallow has made it easier to select any kind of text and edit it as you see fit. Rather than having to choose a menu option, an inline option now makes editing so much easier. It is something that iOS has featured for ages, but is only now making it to Android. Regardless of the wait, it’s a welcome addition to the system.
To use the new select, copy and paste features in Android Marshmallow all you need do is tap and hold over the text you want to modify and the inline menu will appear.
• Copy will copy the word and save it to memory for you to paste where you like.
• Share will open an app menu where you can paste it into your app of choice.
• Select all does exactly that.
• There is also a menu next to Select All that features two options, Web search and Assist.
• Web Search allows you to search for the term you highlighted.
• Assist opens up some interactive elements that offers voice options for the screen.
Inline text editing makes a welcome return and allows fast, no-nonsense text manipulation with a couple of taps. It’s a welcome addition to Marshmallow even if it was slow to arrive!
