Less hassle than connecting wires to your tablet. All you need to do is connect this router to the modem. If the modem only has one RJ-45 port, then connect the PC to one of RJ-45 ports to maintain the PC's wired connection. You should read though the manual.
1. Load up the software to help you configure the wireless router.
2. Create a password so that only people who knows the password can connect to it.
3. Choose WPA2 security protocol; the most secure wireless security protocol.
For more advanced and secured wireless network refer to the manual about creating an access list. All wireless devices have a MAC address (Media Access Card) and it is unique to each device. Add the MAC address of your tablet to the access list. Devices can only use your wireless network if it has the correct password
and it's MAC address is in the access list.
Assuming you have an Android tablet, you can get the WiFi MAC address by following the below generic instructions. The actual step my differ depending on which Android tablet you have.
a. Press the Settings icon.
b. Scroll all the way down until you see "System" and "About tablet".
c. Press "About tablet"
d. Press "Status"
Look for "Wi-Fi MAC Address".
If you have a smartphone, then it is a good idea to access the web through the wireless network rather than needlessly burning through your 3G/4G data plan.
