I'm kinda sick of the 2.1 speaker systems, want to go back to the way it was before I ever got on computers, been using these (the first link), and they do quite well, but all the spec/tech talk confuses me, need help choosing a replacement...

Cyber Acoustics High Power 2.1 Subwoofer Speaker System...

Would these be an upgrade from that, loudness wise?...

...and how might this compare to the Onkyo?...

I am saying that either mini system will play a bit louder than the Cyber Acoustic but that may not be loud enough for you.
Mini systems have limited power and usually very cheap speakers.
The Polks you link to will work fine with the Insignia receiver but if they can't play loud enough then they could be damaged when you try to do that since you have more power than they can handle.
I don't know what you think loud enough is and how far from the speakers you will be. If you want the maximum volume then a PA or DJ speaker will usually be the most efficient type of speaker but will sacrifice sound quality for that...
If your primary concern is loudness then either mini system "might" play a little bit louder but not by a great deal.
If you budget is about $200 I would suggest getting one of these

Given your limited budget speakers will be tough. If you just want loud a pair of DJ speakers will play quite loud with the above receiver. If you want better quality and don't want to go used I would check out parts-express,com. They have a lot of speakers at modest prices. They even have easy to assemble kits.

Thanks for the advice. So are you saying that the Sony and Onkyo might be a little louder than the Cyber Acoustic or that the Onkyo might be a little louder than the Sony?

Anyhow, would you say these speakers go well with that receiver/amp you suggested, or are they half the power they need to be?...
