Hi

Could anyone advise me if it's possible to replace my HDD in the HP 6910p (80GB, SATA I,
5400 RPM) with a new one 750GB , 7200 RPM SATA III like WD7500BPKT.

Thanks

Solution
A 7200rpm drive will run down your battery a tiny tiny bit more than a 5400rpm.

If you don't store a lot of stuff, have you thought about a 128GB SSD, even on a SATA-1 connection, will be far superior to anything a HDD can do and eats far less power, so you get more time on battery.

Yes. SATA I is 1.5 GB/s and SATA III runs up to 6 GB/s. The controller determines the speed. In your case it would be 1.5 Gb/s although the Hdd will run up to 6 Gb/s. You cannot adjust the controller for faster speeds. A good analogy would be, the speed limit is 80 mph ( your SATA III Hdd ), but your car ( the Controller ) will only run 50 mph. As for the 7200 RPM, I don't why they aren't installed in those things to begin with instead of the 5400 RPM ones.

Good points, although I think I could live with the shortened battery life for a faster Hdd, but the SSD is a good idea and run an external Hdd for storage and back up. Now, if I could onloy figure out how t get more life out of my phone battery.

LOL I rarely do computer things on it. Maybe a little FBing after hours, but not much of that and I hate texting on that thing. It is 4G LTE and I get about 12 hours max. The extended life batteries aren't much better. I do have extra batteries and have an extra battery for my laptop.

I've got a lot of things to store on my HDD , I think I'll go for either 500 or 750GB, and as you said I could trade the shortened battery life for a faster HDD

Thanks any way
