HP Compaq laptop RAM upgrade

Hey I'm trying to help out a friend by upgrading his RAM in his HP Compaq 6710b. I was just wondering if someone knew which RAM to buy. The only concerns I have is that the RAM be compatible with the laptop. Also that RAM would not be bad for the laptop. Let me explain. I purchase a little while ago an Acer Netbook. There wasn't enough RAM in the machine so I went to look for an upgrade. Thankfully I found a DIY vid where the guy explains how to install and cautions users to only use RAM of that size and speed. The reason being is that the system can't handle faster and larger RAMs. Putting one in might cause the system to burn out.

BTW: "system can't handle faster and larger RAMs. Putting one in might cause the system to burn out."... this is false!..
1. If the RAM stics are faster than the computer supports, they will work at the supported speed.. in some cases (depending on the chipset & CPU) they won't work, but the computer will never burn out.
2. If RAM is larger than the mobo supports, it just recognizes the amount it does recognize... in your netbook's case, the maximum is 4GB.
3. If you'd rather avoid the hassle, go to a RAM manufacturer website (whichever make you prefer) and look or search for "Ram Configurator", input your computer make and model or download an application if available to scan your computer, and see the website results for RAM size, speed and price for your computer.
