Hp compaq nc6400

Hi, I'm very very sorry... I know this is shit from 2006, and for most of you is recommend to throw away it to junk. BUT, my auntie please me, to repair and upgrade it, if there is possibility. So few questions:
-What OS is best for that?
-Now is 1 gb ram, should add 2 gb for better performance?
-Can I add ssd or something?
-What is better? This(with dual core centrino), or dell inspiron mini 1018;

2GB might improve performance it but i don't think the CPU and graphics on that laptop would be good enough to play or stream any HD video.

where in that sentence did i mention gaming? you mentioned playing movies and that is what i meant when i talked about HD video
