I purchased this old gaming laptop about a year ago to replace the even older HP G17 I slung across the room and shattered(lesson learned). I was wondering since I idiotically bought BF4 on sale, if ANY upgrading, besides ram, llke a higher res screen or a bit more recent processor with the same motherboard socket but higher wattage, or gfx cards that might be fully or somewhat compatible

The only thing that comes to mind is a cpu upgrade if the board can handle a 35-45w phenom x3 but you are stuck with the 5470. Be careful as HP/Compaq laptops can have unfixable issues with their boards such as the dreaded 3f0.

I see, the wattage was me looking at the 35 watt dual-core thatt comes stock and wondering if i could replace it with the Phenom II X940 Black Edition since it had the same socket just higher wattage, also page 1 and 2 of the maintenance guide(found here http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02642701.pdf ) displays a list of processors and cards i assume are dubbed compatible or stock and I noticed a few( still old) cards that were apparently a little better and thought that would work, i just cant get a yes or no, if its all around impossible then new laptop here i come..

I am quite versed in HP's and actually have 4177 as well as several....anyway x940 is black ed mobile cpu can be found on ebay, I would also suggest considering a 7t board swap, the boards are cheap (ebay) and I believe you can even go to intel (within same range, note the board similarities in comparison, I would definitely first do a bios whitelist removal first, if keeping the same architecture, in case of board hardware, differences ie..wifi etc

Might add there is not unlocking feature so the price is not really effective, u wo t get the be advantage, hence the board swap idea, thinking of doing mine before selling js
