HP Elitebook 8460w not charging

Greetings all! I have a 2nd hand Elitebook 8460w which arrived stripped of all components. I had to purchase RAM, HDD, Network Card, battery and charger. Once arrived I installed said items, and installed the battery and charger. Laptop came on long enough for me to install windows, but I realized that I was not getting any charge from the power adapter.

Thinking i ordered duff parts, I reordered a new battery and charger only to have the same results.

So, after my longwinded tale this is the short of it. My elitebook can power on with a fully charged battery but will not charge.

I have tried to power on the elitebook without battery with 2 different chargers without success.

I have searched hi and low across the web for answers and nothing seems to have the answer. Can anyone shed any light onto the matter?

It sounds like the charger socket on the laptop ... or related internal components are damaged.

Put the Laptop battery in it ... plug the charger in and turn it on. Then remove the battery once it boots up ... does it stay on?
