Hp laptop hdmi to TV issue

My laptop screen is broken and I am trying to connect to my TV via hdmi cord. But it does not recognizie anything is happening. I need to back up things on the desktop before sending it for repair. Hp laptop model hp 15f272wm and I believe it is running windows 10. Any help is greatly appreciated!

did you ever have it successfully connected to your tv or ... are you just trying it now for the 1st time because the laptop's screen is broken?

are you sure you have the tv set up to be using the hdmi port that the laptop is using as input?
