HP Pavilion Laptop dv9500 burned up screen? Throw-away?

Having problem of screen not lighting up.
I plugged in a monitor but that didn't work. Took it to an expert. He said it was no good. That I might as well throw it away. Anyway, it sounds like the computer is working and the power light and panel come on. It opens DVD drawer and when I put one in it sounds like it is playing?

sounds like the infamous HP graphics chip solder problem

ebay it as faulty-- they do sell

think i got £80 for the last one i sold with the graphics fault
