HP Pavilion Screen Flickers before Shutting Off

Hello! I have a HP Pavilion laptop running Windows 8 with 2GB RAM, about 280 GB Storage, and it's touch screen as well. . I left it on all night (on my bed, running a game) before closing it, and as a result, the screen now flickers once before completely turning off. The laptop itself turns on and charges, but the screen is down for the count. I've tried removing the battery, holding the power button, and those combined.

Is there anything I can do without going to a professional?

Could just be a loose connection. The LCD video cable often comes loose from the back of the screen; pivoting the screen pulls on it. You can certainly try reseating the cable yourself, but if you're not familiar and comfortable with navigating the laptop, it would be better to pay someone.
