Solved! HP ProBook 430 blank screen & won't boot up:

Blank screen and won't boot. Power and Caps lock LEDs both on permanently

Product: ProBook 430
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (32-Bit)
Both the power on and caps lock LEDs are on permanently without flashing or beeping. I have tried removing battery, unplugging memory, etc. to no avail.... it was working properly before shutting down then problem started when I next tried to boot up.

If those lights are on, it is then likely actually on. Just the display isn't.

Try this...

1. Turn the laptop off (not sleep or hibernate but off).
2. Connect an external monitor to the laptop.
3. Turn on the external monitor.
4. Turn on the laptop.

NOTE: You may have to press an "external monitor" button. Could be the f4 button or a button with two monitors on it, for the external monitor to work.

If you can see fine on the external monitor, then your attached display, or the ribbon cable that connects it, are your problem.

If you can't see on the external monitor at all, or the problem occurs on the external monitor as well, then it is probably the graphics card/GPU that is the problem, which may require the motherboard be replaced.

You may also want to try hitting CTRL + SHIFT + WIN + B to try and reset your graphics driver as another possible fix.

Hi, its definitely not on so its not the screen. I am beginning to believe it must be a motherboard problem as none of the other suggestions worked. Thanks for the suggestions.

That is rather odd, as even with a black display, having lights on usually means on. They will stay that way until there is no power or the power button is hard pressed to force a shut down.

You may want to take it to a local tech and have them look at it to be sure and find the exact issue.

Yup, looks like a techie will have to look at it.... even hard pressing power button or holding it down for 30 sec with batt off and power unplugged does nothing... both lights just turn right back on the moment I put back the batt. Thanks!
