I cannot get my receiver to stay on...turns on than off..it is brand new...

Do you have any speaker wires which are touching each other?

Your receiver may have an internal problem and is defective or as mentioned above there may be a short in the speaker cable. Disconnect all the speaker cables and then try it. If it stays on then connect one speaker at a time and try again until you find the bad wire (or bad speaker).
