You will need an HDMI to composite video plus audio converter. If you want to use the HDMI to connect to the TV (you won't get HD if you go through the DVD-R) then you will also need a 1 in 2 out HDMI distribution amplifier.

Even if you manage to get this to work, a DVR with RCA input only can record SD quality, is gonna look like crap.
