Why not? I have a similar, earlier, Fuji HS10. Being 'On' does not influence the battery door opening. It is a simple latch

I'm fairly sure there will be no sort of electronic latch just open the battery compartment and take the battery out

It will not do any harm at worst you will lose config settings

Thanks, I have now worked out how to slid the battery cover opens. Replaced the batteries and all us working OK now
