I have a new phone a galaxy prime7J I can't tether to my chromebook

If it won't work using a USB you can try using the phone as a Hotspot.

If it is at all possible it would be done this way...

1. Go into "Settings" and in the "Wireless & networks" section tap "More".
2. Now tap "Tethering & portable hotspot".
3. For "Wireless Tethering" tap "Set up WiFi hotspot"
4. On this new screen you will see options for a "Network Name", "Security", "Password" and "Network Band". You can change them or keep them as is. It is really up to you.
5. Now you would just need to search for the hotspot by name using the second device.

NOTE: While a WiFi hotspot feature is built into Android, some service providers/carriers, especially in the United States, hide it. You would then need to see if you can locate an app that you can install to help with this.

This is what I am asking . I have had 3 phones previously. And I just went into settings switched over my mobile hot spot . Then it would allow me to use my Chromebook.. this one won't..I am familiar how it works as I have always done this . But I can't do it on the galaxy 7. Everything is on the phone to tether but it won't hook up on this phone . It is a very simple thing have done it 100s of times . This phone will not hook up using the tethering

It is possible that it was restricted or even removed on that device by either the manufacturer alone or with the carrier/service provider involved. You may want to then check with them.
