Why do so many people fail to use the shift key when posting a message?

It seems to me that if they want their message read, they would want to
make it easy to read. Ignoring the accepted conventions of capitalization
(THIS ALSO ENCLUDES ALL CAPS) just does not seem to make sense. Are people
really that lazy.

I think it is the same laziness that causes people to not quote
correctly:

netiquette, though not formal, for years has accepted all lowercase as
appropriate behavior. all caps has always been deemed rude.

That may be true and it may just be because I'm over 50 and still
remember actually writing letters, but I, for one, give far more
credance to a post that is spell checked and at least somewhat properly
punctuated.

about top posting for no real reason.

Hi Joseph. Sometimes I am using my left hand for something else (telephone,
etc.) and I want to respond right away and just disregard the media when the
message is what's important.
MUCH BETTER THAN FOLKS WHO CANNOT FIND THE CAPS LOCK KEY AND FAIL TO
DISENGAGE IT WHEN THEY POST, RIGHT?!?
;-)

Amen! It's much easier to find the reply without having to scroll down
through an entire thread.

I prefer to top and bottom post.
That way the folks in Florida will be able to find it.

True. And I always leave a blank line between quoted text and original
material. It can make it much easier to findhe new material in a
reply.

The difficulty of scrolling down seems little until you consider how
many of these messages there are.

That's why netiquette likes people to "quote". An by "quoting' we mean
snipping all the no longer relevant parts of the discussion, adding a
line and then responding BELOW the the relvant part to give context.
There should be no "entire thread" to scroll through. But I agree
that bottom posters that don't snip are just as annoying as top
posters that assume that everybody knows what part of the previous
post you are responding to.

I would like to address some of the questions that have come up in
several replies.

First "ENCLUDES" Typical example of my un-corrected spelling. It did
get past my spell checker since professionally I have to deal with so many
acronyms that I have my spell check set to ignore all caps.

The use of the period rather than a question mark; was nothing less than
an error on my part. I make many.

Frankly I don't have a problem with people who don't know better, or who
make errors from time to time, but it would seem to me that all those people
who ignore the shift key can't possible not know better or just be making a
error, often many times in the same message.

My spelling and grammar are far from great but I do try. It seems these
people just don't try.

You have all made some good points, and I fear that we are not likely to
see any change soon.

I hope you all had a little fun.
