I have an app Calendar on my Samsung Galaxy S5 but it is not on the desktop. How do I move it to the desktop? I can see it in "all apps" but do not know how to shortcut it to the desktop.

Hold in an empty spot on the screen you want to add the icon, it will ask you to select what you want to add, select it.
