I have an old samsung dvd player. Great pic only static for sound. Why?

Well...it could be the cord.....but I doubt it as usually you would only get it on one side.
....but you could try that.
Or....it could just be that the old Samsung DVD player is just plain shot. There isn't a lot else it could be.
