I have red, white, yellow connectors and when I plug the VCR/DVD into my TV I get sound but no picture.

Some TVs have a combined composite video (1 yellow RCA jack) and component video (3 red green blue RCA jacks.) If your does you have to select composite in the TV menu.

It looks like the red and white connections are for audio (stereo) and the yellow for video. Connect accordingly and you will get both audio and video.
