I need help upgrading my late 2011 macbook pro

I need to get this thing going faster than it is now for college. I have a budget of about 450 dollars to spend on electronics and I was wondering if there was anything I could do to get my mac running faster while stilling keep my OSX. Thanks in advance guys!
