Hey, I am having problems with my laptop and they are making me want to give up entirely. This is my last resort so any help would be hugely appreciated. (I am not sure if I have posted this in the right place so I apologise if it is in the wrong place)

First of all, I bought a new Acer Aspire E5-573 with Windows 8.1 pre-installeda few months back and decided that i wanted Linux Ubuntu as my main operating system. However after a few days of driver issues etc. I decided to return to Windows 7 because it was a system I was used to and I wasn't particularly fond of 8.

However, as soon as I return to Windows 7 I then realise that this laptops drivers doesn't support Windows 7 and I could no longer connect to the internet, wired or wireless. Therefore I attempt to download a driver so that it would work however I have no luck. After days of trying new things and nothing solving the problem, I decide to just take it as a learning experience and just to go out and buy Windows 10 and just get on with it.

So now I have burned the .iso to a DVD disc on a different computer and I have gone into the bios on the laptop to tell it to boot from DVD. All is good, however it won't do this. It just reloads Windows 7 each time leaving me extremely frustrated. Can anyone please help me with this?

Thanks.

from the superuser link, it seems USB is also blocked at boot.

I think the upgrade route is only choice until you on win 8.1, then you can go fresh install on win 10. Or upgrade, its your choice

more likely to find drivers that work on win 10 too

I am having trouble finding the extended boot options in Windows 7. However, I already have the Legacy option active in the bios but it just carries on booting up Windows 7.

A long way around is buirn a iso of 8.1, install it from inside win 7 using key that came with machine and then upgrade to win 10. After all that I would reset win 10 using recovery as you would have remains of 3 versions oif windows

It would by pass this problem

I think it exists as Win 8 uses fast boot and probably like win 10, if you want to boot from a USB or DVD, you can use the advanced start menu to do that, no need to access bios at all.

I am in the Advanced Boot Options but I am not seeing anything here that could solve this issue. I have

Repair Your Computer
Safe Mode (with networking and with command prompt)
Enable Boot Logging
Enable low-res
Last known config
Directory Service Restore Mode
Debugging
Disable automatic restart on system failure
Disable Driver Signature
Start Windows

And unfortunately, the machine did not come with the key, it was just pre-installed.

ok, i didn't see you bought win 10. Just upgrade to 8.1 and not put in a key, put it in when you upgrade to win 10

win 8.1: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows8

Now if you do it this way, i would suggest that once win 8 is on, load into advanced start up and run 10 as a boot device

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/open-advanced-startup-options-windows-8.htm

And fresh install win 10 using custom install: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

I have everything from the box but I can't see a Windows 8 key.
Would it be possible to try and put the .iso for Windows 10 on my smartphone and try and boot up from USB instead of Disk? Maybe a crazy idea but I am grasping at straws at this point.

what happens if you press Alt F10 at boot?

Microsoft do not provide Windows 8 keys for preinstalled OEM versions (it is not necessary as the key is embedded). Consequently, a COA label is not issued. You simply need to execute 'Acer Recovery Management' at boot up with Alt + F10. (Note, any data will be lost as your machine will revert to its original shipped state.) A key will not be required.
