I need HELP!

I have been given a laptop. When I got to start it up there is absolutely NOTHING on it. It says that it doesn't have a "hard disk".
So for the heck of it I tried to install Windows. It started to start up. Then it says it doesn't have drivers.
I assume this all means I need to install the drivers, but it doesn't not acknowledge my hard disk drive when I try to install them.
Im so lost. I know nothing about computers and I do not have the funds to take it anywhere.
Someone please help me! I need this computer for work.

it sounds like you have a bad hdd.

even though it is reading the windows disk?

your laptop can read the disk even without any hdd. i would try to format your hdd, which you can do just before you instal windows 7. also, restore factory default bios settings, someone may have changer the hdd settings.
