paid to have battery replaced and "new" one is acting just like the one I brought in as far as going to red from a 100% charge. It is as if the battery is the same one and has not been replaced. Should a "new" one go from 100% to red in
standby for 8 hours?

Depends on which iPhone it is. The early ones did not last very long.
