I want to use my internal mic but the computer thinks my earbuds with no mic are a mic

so when i plug in the earbuds it mutes my laptop mic and idk how to fix that. i want to use the earbuds and the laptop mic at the same time. it's a toshiba satellite l55w-c, and no the headphones dont have a mic, they're just headphones.
i have one AUX hole, i tried everything on multiple sites. the built in microphone only works if i unplug the headphones

Are you sure that the port you are using for the earbuds is an output one (for headphones) and not an input one (for a mic)? Or if it is a dual input/output one, that could also be the issue. Try this...

1. Go to "Control Panel".
2. Click on "Sound".
3. Click the "Recording" tab.
4. Click on the device you are trying to fix, as in the computers microphone.
5. Now right click and set the internal mic as the default.
6. Then right click on any listing for another microphone and click "Disable".

NOTE: Make sure you remember that you disabled the ports microphone capability should you try to use something with a mic in it.

7. When you are done with your changes, click "Apply" and then "OK".

It didn't do anything, but I'm pretty sure it is a dual input/output

If setting the internal mic a the only one, while the earbuds are plugged in mind you. If you do it while they aren't plugged in, then it won't actually work the same way. Then there is something going on with the port.

In that case you may want to try another set of earbuds, or headphones, and see if you get the same issue. If you don't, the earbuds are the issue. If you do, then the port is. In that case it is either replace the port, or try using a 3.5mm to USB adapter and connect via a USB port.
