i would like to hook up the computer to the dvd player which has hdmi to the tv..how do i do that?

Solution
If by DVD player you mean just that and not a HTS system with speakers then it won't have inputs you can use.
You need to connect the computer to the TV. Depending on what video and audio outputs the PC has and what inputs the TV has you would need a converter in most cases to connect them. The exception would be if your PC has DVI and audio and the TV has an HDMI plus audio input. Then you would just need a cable with DVI and HDMI plus another for audio.
If the "DVD" is a HTS and it has inputs you would convert the PC video and audio to a compatible connection.

Check whether your DVD player has a HDMI port apart from one for TV. If your DVD player has a HDMI port similar to the one you have in your TV then you can probably hook it up without nay issue.
