Hi, I'm trying to get back into computer gaming some; but I'm also a student on a budget. I'm between these two processors and no discreet GPU. I want to be able to play things like Diablo 3, LOTRO, SC2, Baldur's Gate (if they ever rerelease it), maybe Guild Wars 2. None have to be on high settings; I just want to be able to play and have a decent frame-rate.

Thanks!

Entry level gaming with no dedicated GPU...go with the A8. It's 7640g IGP will hands down beat intels HD 4000 in gaming. You will even be able to play some current games on medium settings and some older games on high. But for the price/power ratio the trinity chip wins for gaming.

now if you found the i5 with a dedicated 620m or 7670m then that's a different story.

Hey everyone, I got that Acer laptop with the integrated AMD GPU. So far, it runs Diablo 3, LOTRO, and Torchlight 2 on med/high settings without any hiccups. Just thought you'd all like to know. Thanks for all of the responses and helping me weigh out my decision.

To anyone still considering a laptop based around an A8-4500M, I can confirm that this CPU is fine for older titles.

For example:-

Half-Life 2 - runs at 40+ FPS on high settings at 1920x1080

Crysis - runs at 25+ FPS on Medium settings at 1280x720

Crysis 2 - runs at 25+ FPS on 'High' (i.e. 'lowest') settings at 1280x720 with some advanced effects switched off via autoexec.cfg

COD4 Modern Warfare - runs at 30+ FPS with 2xAA at 1280x720

When I was serious about gaming I would have found this CPU inadequate.

Now that I'm a casual gamer happy to play older titles it's fine :)
