I5 or i3 laptop

I'm confused. i3 or i5 laptop for editing my mini dv cassette videos (15)? I now have a Panasonic Z10 digital camera for mainly taking still pictures but may also take HD movies. I take it I must have a dedicated graphic card. I do like Sony and Acer but welcome advice.

Do you have a budget in mind? One laptop worth checking out is the Sony VAIO F. It has a 1.6 GHz Intel Core i7-720QM processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 500 GB of hard drive space. It also has NVIDIA® GeForce® 310M dedicated graphics.

^ Agreed on the i7. If you are doing any serious editing on HD vids, the extra 4 threads of the i7 will help out quite a lot. Also, must it be a laptop?
