Total budget (In local currency) and country of purchase:
900$ i live in CA USA

* Are you open to refurbs/used?
No. Cc extends warranty only on new

* How would you prioritize? performance, battery life, build
quality Decent it's a beginners laptop for YT videos and web browsing

* Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
NA

* Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
-beginner YT videos(PREFER 4K) but I may buy a different camera and return the go pro so 1080p 60. Also surfing the net

* If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
None I have my ps5 and I'm not a heavy gamer :)

* Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
-keyboard that "feels"nice and a responsive pad
* Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I'd honestly like to purchase from costco, I can return it back before 90 days no questions asked if it's not what I want or something not interested in doing (YT videos is for my teenage son) but any reputable place that takes back no questions asked would be nice

Here are some I found on Costco, in no order of preference:

Acer Aspire 5 15.6" Touchscreen Laptop - 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1165G7 - 1080p | Costco - $900 - Very good specs, but the keyboard is not backlit and probably not the best quality-feeling.

ASUS 17.3" VivoBook S712JA Laptop - 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035G1 - 1080p | Costco - $800 - I personally like their keyboards. 10th gen Intel isn't the newest one but for your purposes it should be fine.

ASUS 14" Touchscreen 2-in-1 VivoBook TM420UA Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7-5700U - 1080p | Costco - $800 - This one I personally like the most. And if I understand correctly, the Ryzen 5700 is current.

Dell Inspiron 15 Touchscreen Laptop - 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1165G7 -...

Dell Inspiron 15 Touchscreen Laptop - 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1165G7 - 1080p - Black | Costco - $750

Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14" Laptop - 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 - 1080p | Costco - $600 -Cheaper than the others I have mentioned, it meets your requirements as well.

I've never tried any of the keyboards except for the VivoBook and Inspiron, and both felt fine. Most of the others seem to feel cheaper from what I'm reading, but still reliable.

Ty for the very detailed information. The one you liked is the one I'm leaning towards also. One question, under 899, is there anything on the costco website you like better?

You're very welcome.
The last link I posted is the best budget laptop I found on Costco in terms of bang for buck-
https://www.costco.com/lenovo-ideap...9.2113761703.1633390576-1233177369.1632853620

I haven't used IdeaPads, only ThinkPads (which I like) so I can't say what I think of the build quality, but the price is great for the specs. Especially during Corona, finding a laptop at this price with 16GB of RAM is not common, and I wouldn't get a laptop with 8GB.
