Install different OS on my smartphone

I am exploring the option of installing a different OS (like Ubuntu or something else) on my smartphone - Samsung Note 2 having Android OS.

1. What are the pros and cons of installing a different OS on a phone?
2. Is it possible to have a dual boot like in PC's?

Ubuntu really doesn't work on the note 2. It boots, a few things work but not much else and nothings been done devwise on it in a year or so.

If you want to try different versions of android, there are lots of those.

You can still dual boot between different android versions.

so my options are pretty much android or.... well android?

It's not like there is a million different phone OS's. PC's only have Windows and Linux or MacOS if you want to hack them. Phones don't have that many options either. Android is linux at it's base, unbuntu is linux, not really that far off anyways. Android you can run and make scripts, have a terminal, not a lot of difference from ubuntu.
