This is a issue that seems to of been around as long as there have been computers....

How to make sure you get all of the installed programs on your computer to your new computer.

Right now i have a laptop that is dying and have been going through the rush of trying to get everything to a new desktop computer and i think other people might find this information helpful. IF know of other resources please comment with the name and link.

First thing is to install File Hippo's Update checker and change the settings to "list all programs". This will at the least give you a good list of clickable links to help speed up your reinstalling of all your programs. Save the results page to a flash drive or Dropbox account.

Next install Cnet Tech Tracker. This takes a LONG time to run but gives you another list of applications often listing applications missed by File Hippo. Save the results page to a flash drive or Dropbox account.

Last but certainly not least is Belarc Adviser that not only will list all programs but also list a good list of registration numbers. Save the results page to a flash drive or Dropbox account.

For those FireFox fans out there if you want to make sure to get a complete list of all the extensions and plugins you have installed make sure to check out the FireFox Extension list Dumper.

If you are using RockMelt or Chrome just make sure you have Sync all enabled. The bad thing is i havent found a way to trigger the sync yet.

Anyone else have any suggested programs for getting a complete list of all installed programs to install on a different computer? Listing serial numbers is a plus.

I hope someone finds this helpful.
