I erased the hard drive on my compaq presario CQ56 129NP notebook and then tried to install windows XP from my windows XP CD . it looked like it was going to install then the blue screen came on that said it was shutting down. How do I install windows XP on this computer. Email is FlaLogan@aol.com

Solution
Also, since this is a Windows 7 based system, XP will not install unless you go into the BIOS, and change the SATA mode to IDE if you can. I had to do this on a HP to get XP to install without messing with the SATA drivers.

In BIOS, change boot settings to boot from CD and go from there.

@runswindows95: or you can slip-stream the AHCI driver into the XP CD. This is going to be the issue though. XP did not come with SATA drivers natively so if you try to install in SATA mode it will crash.
