Hello,

I have HP ENVY m6-1178sa and I decided to throw a SSD in there... Upon opening the hard drive bay I found that it has a Sata 2 1tb hard drive...

I did some googling and found out that HM77 is capable of Sata III, however it is up to assembler to decide which port to use (2 or 3)

HWINFO says, SATA 0 and 1 are 6gb/s are present.

Hard drive thats within laptop is plugged into something called "JHDD1" How can I find out whether that port is SATA 2 or 3?

Thank you!

Solution
Normally it will only be SataIII (6GB) in the laptop. The Sata 3GB drive is all explainable since even if the had a SATA 6gb in there it would not be any faster, just the way mechanical drives are.

Is there any way to be 100% certain?

I am a PC guy and I just remember we had Sata 2 and Sata 3 cables.

Oh well, going to put the SSD tomorrow and bench it.

Thanks for the help!

Yep when they introduced the SATA III standard all the cables on the market became SATA III cables. I am running a SATA III SSD on a cable I got with a motherboard that did not even have SATA II just SATA 150. Not slowing it down at all.
