since the motheerboard has different types of slots such as PCI, AGP and PCIe I wonder where I would insert a CNR card? I know they are being phased out in favor of the ones on-board but I'm curious. likewise I would like to know the same about PCMCIA cards. thanks again.

In most cases you would not. CNR/AMR/ACR cards will only work with laptop models specially equipped to use them. And of course, the same is mostly true of PCMCIA.

I know there is a USB adapter for PCMCIA cards but I doubt you'd find the same type of external adapter for the CNR/AMR/ACR cards.
