It's not the company or the products I dislike about Apple, but rather all those senseless fanbois and fangurls who don't know how stupid they look touting Apple products and swearing by them.

Also, many good things have come from bad places and that doesn't detract from the inherent good of the things. Almost every device I have used that is an Apple product has been good and enjoyable to use. The issue lies when they are compared to the other devices on the market, which begs the question of performance-per-dollar, which is where apple products fail.

That doesn't mean the devices are bad, just that in comparison they fall short. Thing is, for techy people like you and I, performance-per-dollar is the most important thing with user experience coming second, like with Windows. For many other people, user experience is the most important thing, which is why Apple products are so successful, despite their flaws.

Add to that the heavy influence Apple holds because of its marketing spending and it engenders a level of animosity due to the implication that it isn't the products that sell but the selling that sells.

And iTunes...

I wonder how many people criticizing the cost of an iPad have two or more premium video cards in their rigs to play WoW at the high settings. A $600 device that helps a disabled child is a bargain. Imagine what we could acheive if we spent more time discussing new tools and less time acting like one.

Since most of those complaining that the IPad is expensive don't seem to have any context. In the past a device like the iPad, which has existed for years before the iPad called a Dynavox which sales for $6000, far more than $600. Because of the expense, many families couldn't afford it so they got on Medicaid waiting lists which could take years and a ton of evaluations and paperwork before they were approved for funding. However, for $600 plus the cost of augmentative communication apps like prologue2go, they can buy essentially the same device for a fraction of the cost today, not years away. These devices are truly life changing for the profoundly disabled.

Apple should as a sign of good corporate citizenship create a program for the disabled like they do for students and sale these things at cost. Such a program could easily be administered to prevent fraud.

to all those posters who seem to get it...
i agree. ipad cost < other options. always nice to hear such stories.

to those who don't...
get off your apple hating high horse. we all know the pitfalls of apple. that said, you don't have to be a fanboy to appreciate the products they put out into the marketplace. in any case, be happy for the kind and qyb.

my take...
i agree with the idea of an apple disability discount program. i know they currently offer a student discount program so maybe the family did not pay retail. with all the free press lately, perhaps apple will think about this.

there are so many benefits to apple's easy to use and inviting interface. The problem with all you pc experts who hate on apple is you for some reason think everyone should be like you and understand specs and how computers work. It is a very small minded perspective. You can find people who think like that in any field where expert barricade themselves in a community of like minded individuals claiming that people who dont share their specific knowledge are idiots. They are always the ones who look like idiots.

The problem with your statement is that the so called "PC exprets" are stupid noobs taht know crap about computers. Most of the developers and tech enthusiasts I know have used at point of the time and most of them are still using Apple products. They do not glorify or put down another product just because of its brand name...
The people you are describing are spoiled kids or jealous brats that like to feel important by putting everyone else down.

The worst part of it is that the devices you people covet soo much, can do soo much more in the hands of someone who knows how to use them.

Gratz to the kid. God bless him and I hope more technology is developed to help him in life.

Im just happy for the kid. He has found something that he can use that makes him happy. Who cares what company makes it. As long as it helps him and brings some amount of joy to him, thats all that should count. Thats just my opinion.

[citation][nom]buddhav1[/nom]For those of you knocking this article, I hope you get some terrible disease and are forced to use an iPad to check tom's. Bet you won't be griping about the price then, will you?Shut up about your Droid>Apple crap, this isn't about that. Be happy for the damn kid, you egotistical assholes.[/citation]
I think judging someone is also egotistical. You both present valid points.
