Also, many good things have come from bad places and that doesn't detract from the inherent good of the things. Almost every device I have used that is an Apple product has been good and enjoyable to use. The issue lies when they are compared to the other devices on the market, which begs the question of performance-per-dollar, which is where apple products fail.
That doesn't mean the devices are bad, just that in comparison they fall short. Thing is, for techy people like you and I, performance-per-dollar is the most important thing with user experience coming second, like with Windows. For many other people, user experience is the most important thing, which is why Apple products are so successful, despite their flaws.
Add to that the heavy influence Apple holds because of its marketing spending and it engenders a level of animosity due to the implication that it isn't the products that sell but the selling that sells.
